action at or manager conference

For the fifth time, Action Products will have a booth at the OR Manager Conference, to be held Oct. 2-4 in Orlando, Florida. The conference, itself in its 30th year, will bring together more than 1,400 OR managers and directors of surgical suites for three days of CE and networking. The focus of the conference will be on helping OR nurse managers “develop the skills and tools they need to increase efficiencies and meet revenue goals.”

While the conference itself has not been affected by Hurricane Irma, a portion of all proceeds will be donated to Red Cross Relief Efforts from now until the conference begins.

A new feature of this year’s conference, we learned, will be the New Manager Bootcamp, offering the chance to ”meet with an esteemed career coach for free,” and “to have questions answered by someone who has already been in your shoes!”

“Management of operating rooms requires the coordination of human and material resources in such a way that surgery can be performed efficiently, cost effectively, and safely,” the abstract of an in-depth field study published by the US Library of Medicine begins.  Coordinating an efficient OR schedule balances:

  • cost containment
  • safe practice
  • staff satisfaction

“The issues facing managers have become increasing complex and varied, making it almost impossible for one person to know everything about the multitude of topics that OR managers encounter daily,” Ardence M. Lawrence, RS, MSN, MAJ points out in the AORN Journal.

Action Products’ initiatives over the years, with a dual focus on products and practices, have been focused on two prime areas of risk in the OR:

  • Pressure injury prevention
  • Fluid containment and management in the OR
  • As just one example Action DryMax mats adhere to OSHA, JCAHO, and CMS standards.

Skills and tools - both are needed by managers and directors of both in-hospital and free-standing surgical suites. Action Products will continue its efforts to give the “human resources” the “material resources” needed to enhance patient outcomes.
