Helping to Prevent Pressure Injuries since 1970
Action Products, Inc. is a US company that designs, manufactures, and sells Action® brand medical products and other polymer-based products globally. It is a privately owned and operated third-generation business founded in 1970 by the inventor of Akton® polymer, Dr. W. R. McElroy. Most of the company’s products are made with our proprietary Akton® polymer that is a unique, shock absorbing, ultra-soft synthetic rubber.

Dr. W.R. McElroy, Inventor

Wheelchair Cushions for Comfort & Skin Protection and Mattress Overlays were the first medical products developed by the company. Since 1970, caregivers and assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers and long-term care facilities have relied on Action’s home medical products to help prevent and manage pressure sores. Today the company manufactures and sells a range of Home Medical Products made with its proprietary Akton® polymer that has been clinically proven to help prevent pressure sores.
In the mid-1980s, Action Products expanded its market to include Hospital Operating Room Products. Research indicated that anesthetized patients were developing pressure injuries during surgery, like those seen on bedridden or wheelchair-bound individuals. A product that could prevent such tissue trauma was found to be in high demand. By 1990, the company had designed approximately 50 products for its operating room line. These medical products included table pads, head pads, chest rolls, patient positioners, pediatric positioners, and specialty surgical frame pads.
What began as a scientific pursuit to develop a material that would help prevent pressure sores, created a company that manufactures and sells in diversified markets. This range of markets includes hospitals, home health care facilities, equine saddle pads, and a wide variety of Original Equipment Manufacturers. AKTON, the wonder polymer, has also been used in a nasal mask to treat sleep apnea and as an absorbent in high energy electron and photon radiation therapy for cancer.
Research and innovation remain the hallmark of the company and are the legacy of its founder, Dr. McElroy. Today, Action Products proudly serves its Action® brand customers and multi-national global partners in over 60 countries around the world.
