His pursuit to develop a pressure relieving material, that would help prevent pressure sores in immobilized patients, has spurred a worldwide revolution in the pressure management industry. In its third generation of family ownership and management, Action has flourished as a global medical company operating in 58 countries.

  Every year, hospital facilities spend an estimated $26.8 billion dollars treating hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) and their related complications. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid consider HAPIs to be "never events" and in 2008 eliminated reimbursement for costs associated with them. Dr. Heather D. Kooiker, DNP, MSN, RN, CNL, CNOR, CRNFA, is a Board-Certified Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) who also holds Certifications in Perioperative Registered Nursing (CNOR), along with a Registered Nurse First Assistant Certification (CRNFA). Heather serves Baxter International as the Director of Global Medical Affairs for Patient Support Systems and Global Surgical Solutions.
